Esmeralda Fabián Romero's article "Latino students lag far behind whites in every county in California, new study shows" underlines the importance of helping Latino students succeed academically as over 50% of the kids in school in CA are Latino, yet Latino students still face many challenges in the classroom. The author also points out LAUSD's success in making ethnic studies a requirement for graduation so that all students can gain an understanding of the experiences of students of color. This article highlights the importance of our work as tutors and once again supports the need for "culturally inclusive curriculum."
